• Ultra-Violet protection: Most sunglasses offered at American Sunglass come with UV protection (applied during manufacturing) to shield your eyes from ultra-violet rays and ultimately protect you against permanent sun damage. While it is recommended at least 70% UV protection, many experts suggest going for over 98%. 

• Polarization: Polarized lenses help neutralize the sun's glare that reflects off of surfaces like snow or water. They also filter some of the diffused light scattered within our atmosphere. You can see the difference in clarity in the image below. However, because they diffuse the light, it is also very difficult to see many of the computerized screens found in cars or phones...or if you're a pilot!  Randolph Engineering's SkyTec lens technology gives you all the protection without the distortion

• Mirrored Lenses: Mirrored lenses have a highly reflective surface that will filter some light. However, the mirror finish coating means they will be more prone to scratches. • Scratch Resistant Lenses: Scratch resistant plastic lenses and polycarbonate lenses are more durable than untreated lenses. Scratch-resistant lenses can also come with a extra coating for increased protection.

• High Contrast Lenses: Orange or yellow lenses offer contrast filtering, which aids in depth perception and provides a sharper image. However, because they distort colors, high contrast lenses may not be suitable for driving.

• Photochromic Lenses: These are optical lenses that darken with exposure to specific types of light of sufficient intensity, most commonly ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Since most car windshields filter out the UV rays, they will not darken while inside your car and therefore may not be the best choice when driving. • Prescription Sunglasses: Prescription sunglasses enable you to enjoy outdoor activities and sports while maintaining good vision. Since these are actual sunglasses that do not rely on the UV rays, these are a better choice for you while driving.
