American Icon: Martin Luther King Jr

Martin Luther King Jr an American Icon

Every once in a while, we are privileged to be in the presence of an extraordinary person.

They are not extraordinary because of skills or wealth or beauty or power...but because of their character. They are selfless and therein lies their power.  They do not need wealth and political power to move nations...they use their character.

Though the definition of the word Character has been added to over the years, the principles of a "person of character" remain that same.  They are what make up the moral and ethical fiber of a being.  They are what that person believes in, what they will stand up for, what they will sacrifice for and, even, what they are willing to die for.

Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandella, Aung San Suu Kyi ...these are some of the names we know from our place in history.

Today we celebrate the extraordinary life and remarkable legacy of another such man.......Martin Luther King, Jr.

At the young age of 33 years old he brought Civil Rights to the White House. At 35 He won the Nobel Peace Prize. At 39 he was assassinated for his beliefs.  But those beliefs and words of Hope for Peace and Unity are the legacy that he has gifted to the world for eternity.

He was a LEADER.  He was a UNIFIER. He IS - an American Icon

Words of an Icon:   "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."  ~ Martin Luther King Jr., Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C., August 28, 1963
